How to tie your shoelaces: step by step guide

Does tying your shoelaces bug you? Drives you mad because it's so fiddly? Here is a pictorial guide on how to tie those blasted things! In time, you'll find that shoelaces actually rock!

First thing is tighten up the lacing over the top of the shoe. Then put the left lace over the right one and under (called an overhand knot).

Pull it tight..,

Yep, tight...

Then form a loop with your right hand like in the photo above. Hold the left hand lace in your left hand...and...

...pass it under the loop and around the front. See the orangey highlighting above. The green bit is what I'm gonna call THE HOLE. The red lace that goes over it, I'm gonna call THE RABBIT.

With your left thumb, push the rabbit into the hole. Like the picture above.

Phew, that's the first really fiddly bit done! Now, grab that rabbit with your right hand and the other loop with the left hand, as in the photo above.

Pull them, being careful not to let the ends of the laces pull through. Can be fiddly, but don't worry, it will come with practice!

And pull tight as above.

There you go! Finished shoe lace. Easy Peasy! You know it's correctly tied, because the loops try to stay nicely straight and opposite to each other. Practice makes permanent....
